Removing distributor after fitting MegaJolt

Post by jonathan280 »

Hello,

The 124 AC.000 engine in my Sylva kit car is now running very happly on its crank pulley triggered Megajolt ignition system.

For neatness I'd like to remove the distributor from the block and plug the hole?
Is a simple plug all I need or does the oil pump drive rely on the bearings in the distributor for support?

If a plug will suffice, are there any from the Fiat parts bin that I can use, or do I need to have one machined to suit?

With the distributor gone, I could swap the sidedraft manifold from the current angled type to the "straight shot" type. Is there any advantage to be gained from this?

Best regards........Jonathan

You can make a plug but easier to get one from another 124 model eg: 1608 which had the distr was on the head. The item does an important job which is retain the 'driven gear' (Fiat's name for it) - driven by the aux d/s - that turns the oil pump and the clearance from the plug (which must be fitted with a gasket not O ring) is quite important.

I don't have any but I did record the dimensions if you want to make one, send me an SAE.

I make plugs for these engines. I can shoot the dimensions out here when I get home...
