16v Head Conversion...

Post by madmurdoch »

Hello all,
I have the chance of a tuned 16v head from a Tipo 16v,
And want to put in onto an 8v Tipo engine.
I know the head will fit.
But do i have to change the pistons to match??
Any help would be great Thanks...
Darren.

yes you need to change the pistons as the 16v ones have different valve cutouts.

Hi Darren.
As i told you on Sporting Fiats, its not straightforward. And unless you are going racing, stick with the 8v head. The 16v head only wins at high revs, and you need to really rev it to do that. 8v head will be more then you require if properly gas flowed and built.

Ok Andy,
It was just a long shot as i said can get a New head Cheap!!
Will have to think on the lines of Carb's, Cam's Ect..
Would the Carbs from a 130tc fit ??
Thanks Darren.

Yes, they will go on. This head responds very nicely to gas flowing. Just follow Guys's Head flowing technique guide.
Even an engine running a single Weber DGV 36/36 gives excellent power throughout the rev range.
Basically follow the old three 'C' rule;- Compression, Carb[s] and Cams.
