Exhaust for modified 2.0l 16v Fiat engine and cam suggestion

Post by Walezy »

Hello,
The engine I will be building will have:
-forged conrods 6" long
-86mm forged pistons(flat top) around 11/1 CR with total seal gapless rings
-16v Tipo ported head
-lightened flywheel
-4 x 44 slide plate throttle bodies
-custom camshafts

What I wish to have is around 220HP.
I have two questions:

1. What duration and max lift cams would you suggest for such setup if the car will be used in hillclimb and rallies(i have a close ratio dogbox)

2. I will be making new complete exaust for this car shortly and could you suggest me the diameters and length of the pipes that i should use for the exhaust manifold(i assume that 4-1 will be a good option) and what diameter of pipe should i use for main pipe(50mm or bigger?)

Best regards

Hi Tomasz

Interestingly (though I would never do it on an 8v) I have also seen very good results (190bhp at wheels) from reground 16v profiles (Kent BD3). A very cost-effective solution.
C&B make some of the best billet cams around for those engines, check out their Tipo 16v listing. Any of those is going to do the job.
As for ex I cannot really give you 4-2-1 dimensions so go for a 36" 4-1 with primary pipe diamter equivalent to 3mm bigger than ex port area.

I reckon 2.25" ID on tailpipe collector-silencer should be fine.
