Pittatore cams in my Argenta..?

Post by per »

Hello!
I'd like to know what more modifications are suitable for my engine. The plan is to install these Pittatore cams:

ALBERO PROFILE, lift, timing, valves clereance:
PC07/2 77 10,35 40/80 0,4

The car/engine is my Argenta 120ie 1985, with these current mods:

# slightly polished inlet/outlets
# slightly polished exaust manifold with mismatched step (head-manifold)
# slightly polished inlet manifold (no grades & such)
# 2" full exaust with 4-2-1 front bits, the 2-1 being a little shorter than standard.
# modified airbox (bigger inlet), Jamex sportfilter.

A future mod is to use the higher comp pistons from a Regata 100S/Prisma 1600.

This engine of course has the Bosch LE-Jetronic injection and Marelli Digiplex ignition.

Now I understand I may need to alter the ignition somehow..?
Do I need to do anything fuelmixture-wise?
These or other tips are most welcome!

thank you // Per

Thanks Guy, great info there!
Of course there will be some broadband lambda testing. Call me stubborn but was thinking there are ways to adjust fuelling, by some of the ways you described, along a real-time lambda reading. I'm also much more familiar with Jetronics than carb's...
As someone else mentioned, the hardest nut to crack seem to be with the ignition, how do I adjust that?
Do I have to swap the system completely?

Also what are your thoughts about the cams, will they be ok?
..and in combination with higher compression ratio?

Best Regards // Per

Per, hi

my advice, simple - run carbs or forget the cams. Things have to be right here, this is a race engine forum. That means your engine too!

You'll never get the Bosch electronic inj system to run right (ie: power and proper fuelling) with modified cams. As for ignition - there is no need to alter it. If anything a flowed head tends to need the same as std or less.

Read Damir's post about Peugeot GTi tuning too, re recalibrating FI - near this thread in Q&A.

Ok, thanks again. You know about this page, I suppose? http://www.hiperformancestore.com/fuelinjectors.htm
I was under the impression it would be a help for me.

As for this engine, it'll never be a race engine (I have a 270hp Coupe 20V Turbo for this thank you very much!) just a safe working strong one in a fairly standard car. I'm sorry if I'm in the totally wrong forum then!
