Timing marks

Post by cheitane2003 »

Hello Guy:
Please, help me to find timing marks on my motor.
On the plastic cams cover there are no marks where their should be.
But, as you can see, at the left side of this photo there is a methalic mark.
Do you know what meens? Is it 0⼠or 10⼠before for ignition setting purposes with the stroboscopic lamp?
Thank you very much.

Have a look at the other end of the engine with the transverse unit.

There should be an inspection port in the bellhousing above the fw with timing marks in the alloy casing, three little teeth for 0-5-10 deg btdc - the engine rotates anti-clockwise view from the gearbox end so the fw comes to the 10 deg mark first. If you check by removing a spark plug from no 4 cylinder you should find a mark on the fw that corresponds with tdc (0 mark, furthest tooth to the left) when the piston is at top dead center (tdc). If there is no mark on the fw you need to make one.

If you get stuck, remove the crank front pulley using a 38mm socket and air wrench. On the cam belt toothed pulley there is a thin notch that lines up with a cast mark on the seal housing at tdc 1&4.

If you use a simple strobe light the bellhousing 10 deg mark should be illuminated at idle (850 rpm) speed. If it isn't turn the distributor to align it.
