X1/9 head/cam choice advice

Post by rust4life »

Hi Guy,
I am currently building up my Fiat X1/9 into a fast road/track day car on a pretty tight budget. I have managed to find a twin 40DCNF setup and a ported, polished head and a vernier adjustable cam pulley, all off an internet auction site and the car is already wearing a CSC exhaust system and Lumenition optronic ignition.
I would be very grateful for your thoughts and comments on the head and any suggestions you might have about cam choice to make the most of the other mods. Piper and Cat Cams both seem to have something suitable...

The head appears to be fairly mildly ported with the ports opened out to 32mm at the head face, narrowing to 29mm internally. The valves are standard size but are stainless with waisted stems. The valve guides seem to have been cut back quite far considering they are OE guides? Standard valve springs etc.. and I am afraid to say that it does appear to have been skimmed - although I hadn't found this forum and heard your viewa on skimming when I bought it, honest! Do you think that this will affect cam choice re. max lift?
Any advice you can give me would be gratefully recieved.
thanks,
Ben

I'm just off to stick a pic. of the car in the readers cars section as they seem to be rather under represented :)
