Valve and seat pitting

Hi Guy,

I'm doing a top end re-build on my integrale at the moment and was wondering about the cause of valve and seat pitting? The guides were worn and had been for some time, do you think that this was the main reason for it in this case? They've now been re-ground and are ready for fitting.

On another note, can you tell me what your GC 16v inlet manifold measures from face to face please?

Many thanks,
Martin.

That's carbon impact damage.

Certainly excess oil entering the combustion chamber down worn guides would encourage it, but it can equally as well be caused by oil from the turbo (sucked in to inlet off-boost), over-rich mixture or worn rings.

The GC 16v conversion inlet manifold is 79mm wide (at top and bottom).
