Converting 8v Tipo 1600 to 16 valves

Post by Binio »

Hi Guy!
My question is about converting 8 valves head to 16 in 149C2 engine (from Tipo 1.6)
I must change:
- complete head;
- pistons from 160A5 engine;
Something else ?

Thank you for answer.

Is that an original 1.6L SOHC engine? If so it cannot be converted.

If the engine really is same cylinder block as the Lancia Delta GT, with same coolant galleries, bolt positions, bore positions, it should be easy enough, use complete 16v Tipo type head, head gasket, rebore the block and fit oversize normally aspirated 16v pistons. Be careful about piston compression height, they do vary.

Will the revised inlet-exhaust fit in the car? No idea.

Please don't let this be another 'I'm thinking about fitting a 16v head' posts. Make me happy, get the old engine out and get on with it.

This is 16v Tipo head fitted by me to a full race 131 2 liter block by method described above. Note that the ports visible are exhaust, not inlet.
