Abarth 1840 engines - 8v and 16v.
Hi.
I am looking for informations about works Abarth 1840 engines, a 8v and 16v versions. Do somebody know that engine block for 86mm pistons was a different that normal 1756 block ? Whether they were reinforced ? Which colour has Abarth works engine blocks ?
What type of camshafts was used in tarmac, gravel and snow spec engines for 8v and 16v ?
Are Abarth using different type of rods in 124 1840 ? It was bolt only type ?
Are 124 Abarth engines has a dry sump system ?

Sorry to say, but i have no clue about any Fiat engine unless it is the Alfa V6.
I know it is of no help, but would the block not have been Silver or Red for an Abarth engine?
Only a guess again here, but would the 124 engines actually have been dry sumped? I could easily imagine that they would have had a big wing or baffled sump of sorts fitted.
But as i said above i have no clue, these are just guesses and assumptions.

It is true that 124 gr.4 cranks were chrome plated ?

the block for ALL the 124 Fiat-Abarth engines was stock production Fiat 124 Coupe (CC series) block code (big letters cast on the inlet side just above the core plug..
Cranks vary, the works cars had a crank made specially by Abarth.
Rods were forged in the SAME press as production engines but with Chrome-Moly steel not EN8. They had nuts and bolts. Certainly bigger on the 131 16v (maybe from the Lancia Gamma) - on the 1800 I have NO IDEA.

As for Abarth colors - no idea at all. But I do know that every 'works' crankcase from the 124 Rally thru the 131 16v was carefully polished internally and SHOT blasted, beautifully deburred inside (I would know one at a glance) and out - with a BIG Abarth number stamp somewhere and 'ABARTH' in a little rectangular box stamped also.
Where? Look at one and find it yourself! You will know when you see it!
Talking of which this stuff is so RARE I can only tell you what I have PERSONALLY seen...

here are some pics of 124 Rally 16v in prep,
note that in line with improved procedures at Abarth (probably to conform with FIA requirements for better traceability) the engine number on the block is by then unique to Abarth, 232 etc rather than the style used on the 8v units which was a rather indeterminate coding system,
here GC prep on one of Mick Wood's 16v 124 Rally units.. I had two in prep at the same time 2013+
sorry too complicated and boring to go into more detail, if you think you have a genuine unit - write me, there is a growing trade in counterfeiting 'ex-works' stuff which I have no time for so I am not going to publish much here...
