Valve guides pressed too far

Post by vandor »

Hello Guy,

You may remember my customer Jeff bought a set of your valve guides for the Fiat TC a few months ago.
I got the cylinder head and block back from the machine shop last week. I gave the shop the instructions you sent with the valve guides, however it appears they pressed the guides in too far. If I am reading your instructions correctly, the valve guide shoulder should be at the same level as the top of the valve spring bases. The machine shop installed them 1.5mm lower...

I assume this will result in significant loss of flow?
Can the valve guides be pressed out and reinstalled?

However, looking at your pics of the current 1800 Abarth head build, the guides seem to be sticking out a lot less than mine. It looks to be a lot more than 1.5mm difference. What do you think?
Thank you for your time,

Csaba

I really would not worry too much Csaba, so long as you can fit the spring bases and stem seal. It's not ideal but the impact on flow won't be severe.
