Oil Thermostat Flow Rates; External vs. Sandwich

Hello,
Do you know if there is a difference in flow rates between external oil thermostats and thermostatic sandwich plates? That is assuming the same 1/2 inch fittings. I have room to do it either way but the thermostatic sandwich plate would be easier.
