Hello Guy,
I would like to ask you if you know what head gasket to use with 86mm cylinder bore in 2.0l engine. Will the standard TC gasket be ok or i need to get a custom one made.
I will be using this bore with forged pistons and i want to be sure that i get the parts for this conversion before ordering custom pistons.
Best regards
Tomasz

The OE 16v Astadur gasket can certainly cope with 85mm bore, but keep the piston crown 0.5mm below the block deck or it might hit the fire ring - it will overlap fractionally into the bore.

edit note: Assume this is a 16v conversion unit? If not please e mail me.

I¢ž¢ve just had a head gasket failure for the exact same reason, though it was on a 2.4 pinto with a bore of 92.8mm. The head gasket specified was for a maximum bore of 92.8, and when lined up with the block, overlapped into the bore. The location of contact between the piston and gasket was right next to a water galery that then leaked into the bore.

The head went back on tonight, and will need the last stage of a seven stage torque sequence when the engine is cold tomorrow. I'll take some photos of the fire rings if anyone is interested?

Photos, sure, no doubt that's what the forum needs.
