Repairing damaged camshaft jounals?

Post by cantfindausername »

Hi Guy, hope everything is going well!

I'm currently stripping down a Toyota 3.0 v6 that I'll be transplanting into my girlfriends MR2, while my car is with Phill Lanes!

I've got to a point now where the engine is pretty much apart ready for cleaning and new gaskets and rebuilding.

However, while stripping the head it came to light that the some of the camshaft journals have been damaged through (I assume) oil starvation at sometime.

Someone has suggested that its possible to repair the journals by chrome welding :?: and re-turning them to size.

Is this something you've ever come across? Or am I going to have to find replacements camshafts?

As ever your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Ant

Replace. Far too highly loaded to ever risk repair.

Thanks for confirming Guy. I wondered if that was the case, so I got a price for the replacements this morning.

thank you,
Ant
