Fiat 105TC pistons - suitability for 130TC?

Post by Piero »

Hi,
I have been offered a set of new old-stock 105TC, 1600cc, 84.4mm pistons, inc rings and pins.
I would like to know how well they will fare in a stage 2 130TC Strada engine.
Will they fit and give a good squish, without fouling the head/valves.
What C.R will I get?
Being cast, what is the rpm limit going to be?
Is a modern cast piston any better?
What would you say is a fair price to pay for them?
Many thanks,

Piero

I have been offered a set of new old-stock 105TC, 1600cc, 84.4mm pistons, inc rings and pins. I would like to know how well they will fare in a stage 2 130TC Strada engine. They'll be OK provided your block cleans up at that size.

Will they fit and give a good squish, without fouling the head/valves. You'll be OK on the first two, as for valve to piston clearance you'll have to dry build it to find out (see GC V/W).
What C.R will I get? About 10.2/1
Being cast, what is the rpm limit going to be? I say 7200rpm.
Is a modern cast piston any better? I don't know what you're referring to here.
What would you say is a fair price to pay for them? Discussion of price is not permitted on this site, except in Sales & Wants. Read rules re vendors at: http://guy-croft.com/viewtopic.php?t=429

I trust that this plus the info proffered on your post at my friend Ben Ellis' site http://www.sportspider.co.uk will get you sorted. If you find cast pistons in oversize you'd best take them quickly before someone else does, they are not easy to find now, most stocks were junked.

Hello,

May be I'm too late but I've experienced this setting. So, with this pistons (Mahle Mondial 3268) I've measured, with 2 mm head gasket thickness, a CR of 10.4:1. The clearance I've calculated (simulation with the camshaft of the 130TC and all the other parts) is 5.5mm worst case. No problem.
The engine runs well !!! I've limited the revs to 6300 rpm (original equipment limitation).
