My Family and other Fiats
Hi Everyone,
I'posted a few posts on the GC Q & A forum and decided I'd better introduce my self.
My name is Gill and I'm a Fiataholic, I have had over 14 Fiats over the last 25 years and currently own 2. Here is a list:
125 197? (Family car when I was young)
850 Coupe 1966 (my fist car) (still got it but it looks a bit sad now)
131 Supermirafiori 1979
124 Sport Coupe CC 1974
850 Sedan 1964
850 Sport Coupe 1971
124 Sedan 196?
2300 Sedan Abarth (A triple webered 5 speed beast. An absolutely outstanding car. It did 0-100 close to 7 seconds and topped out at 230kph. Sadly was destroyed in an accident whilst it was broken down. I still have the engine and a few other bits)
2300 Sedan 1969
124 Sedan (1756 with twin IDFs)
Regata 100S 1984
2300S Coupe 1966
2300 Station Wagon
124 Sport Coupe CC 1974 (My current toy and a dead ringer of the one I had 22 years ago)
There is about 6 more but they were wrecks I had for spares.
My current 124 CC has a 132 2.0ltr with twin IDFs, Some flow work, Big valves and seat work inspired by GC.
Anyway. That's me
Gill

Yes they may've been boxy but they had great proportions (as well as the Coupes). But as you say, the Coupes definately had a very special extra, not to mention the CC's seeming ability to swallow little children and animals through that hungry grille!mack124 wrote:I like all of Fiat¢ž¢s Coupes. It always amused me that some Fiat Sedans were boxy and ugly and the Coupes were beautiful & sleek.

Hi Gill
I have had a good look at the picture of your cylinder head. It looks like a 125 head (wide water port closest to pulleys and distance between No 2 and 3 combustion chambers). I may be wrong, but please check it out before you consider bolting it to the block because there are differences between the 125 and 124 head and will hence not work on the 2L block.

Gill,
If I'm not mistaken you purchased (collected) your first silver CC on the 2nd of Nov 1985 - it was a Saturday. I remember because it was my 9th birthday and I was shattered that my grandfather sold that beautiful car let alone sold it on my birthday. As some sort of consolation I got to wash it before you picked it up.
What ever happened to that car?

The head actually did come off this 2ltr block so it better go back. I still have the original 124 engine but I wanted to keep it unmolested for now. I don't want to do anything to the car that can't be put back to original if I ever decide to go down that path.
Youngy125:
Yes it was around 2nd of Nov 1985 I got my 1st 124. The reason I sold was, I was too young to be able to afford to insure it. I think the premium was around $2500 per year and that was way out of my league back then. The other reason was it had bad fatigue cracks in the body work around the front suspension. I sold it to a chap in Orange but I don¢ž¢t know if he still has it.
Bye for now

I have to admit that I did not inspect the photo as well as I should have (I¢ž¢ll have to see an optometrist for a decent pair of specs). It positively is a 2L head.
I am also restoring a 1974 124 CC I bought in South Australia approx. a year ago. I initially chased a good looking metallic blue 124 Sport in Perth but eventually had to part with the idea of ever owning it - purely because I am not in the horse trading business (I don¢ž¢t bid on cars) and as you know, Fiat ¢‚¬Å“ ‹Å“she¢ž¢s not very big in WA¢ž¢. At any rate, having recently migrated from South Africa, I had to satisfy my undying love for a 124 Sport and without thinking twice, bought one online from a gentleman in Adelaide.
There was a snag though ¢‚¬Å“ it had blown the head gasket and had to be replaced before driving it back to marvellous Kalgoorlie where I live. I made the seller a deal that I will replace the head gasket myself on condition that he bears the cost of the head gasket and other parts. I arrived at Adelaide Airport 11.15am one Saturday morning and by 4.30pm it was fixed and I was ready to embark on my epic journey back to Kalgoorlie some 2400km away across the Nullarbor. I completed the glitch free trip in 30 hours. Best of all was the fuel consumption ¢‚¬Å“ an average of 10.8km/l with two twin IDF¢ž¢s!
Good luck with your project.

Re: My Family and other Fiats
Hello All,
Here is an update on my 124 Coupe Well, it finally registered and on the road. On and off it took me three and a half years to complete. (Do we ever complete them or do we abandon them?)
The basic specification are.
1974 Fiat 124 Sports Coupe
Engine is a 2ltr out of a Fiat 132
Bottom end was rebuilt to std specs
Head has been ported via a lot of annoying messages and questions to GC. Thanks Guy
Induction is through 40mm IDFs and a “Waffle” manifold
The venture were machined from 32 mm to 34 mm and jetted accordingly
Cams are standard.
The air cleaner is a ”Turtle Back” from a 124 BC, however, I did have to do some modifications to the ribbing under the bonnet to clear the air cleaner…I should have used smaller, after market air cleaners…It would have been far less head aches. I tried dropping the engine down with thinner engine mounts but because of the bigger strengthened 132 sump the engine then sat on the cross member. Oooh! Not so good good vibrations.
The suspension has been fully refitted with new Bushes, Ball Joints, Tie Rods, Drag link and some nice KONI yellow shocks.
The differential is and 3.9:1 that I’ve had saved for a rainy day and that day has arrived… even though sadly, it doesn’t seem to rain where I live anymore.
The wheels are of coarse off a Lancia and I’m running 195/60 tires.
The interior is RED and a bit tatty apart from all new door and window rubbers and a new RED carpet. Did I mention RED.
The paint is as close to the original Grey Metallic as I could find. It’s actually the paint code from a 1982 Fiat but I’ll be dammed if I can see the difference. It was finished in a nice 2 pack.
Well that’s enough talking. I’m going to go out somewhere and enjoy driving it
