Converting Fiat 132AC000 1592 cc engine into 1756 cc

Post by Spider 1969 »

Guy and other readers of this topic,

I'm having the opportunity to buy a new 132AC000 engine. As you probably know this engine has a bore of 80 mm and a stroke of 79,2 mm which gives it 1592 cc. It is possible, with a small chance of breaking into a water jacket, to increase the bore to 84 mm which gives 1756 cc.
I would like to do this conversion. Question I have if I can use standard OE 1756 pistons on the 1592 rods?
In other words: are 1592 rods equal to 1756 rods?
I searched the internet but did not find any information on this conversion performed so I would appreciate your experience if available.

Best regards,
Charles

I have done that rebore to 84mm once - and once only - so I cannot guarantee...

Rods the same 1592/1756, pistons possibly not, simply do not know.

You cannot go simply swapping pistons and rings from one engine to another without the most detailed bore and piston preparation and new rings.

Guy,

Thank you for your swift reply. I understand the difficulties and uncertainties and do not intend to use old pistons. New 1756 pistons including rings are available as well and I think it is an opportunity to create a new 1756 engine as these are not available.
I found a couple of statements on the internet that block dimensions, cranks and rods are the same but these were never being backed up by actual conversions being done. Your confirmation about the rods gives me some more certainty to endeavour this conversion albeit very careful.

Hello Charles,

A lot of people have said that this is not possible due to the wall thickness of the cylinder area.

I have contemplated doing this a few times already. I have not tried it and would love updates as you continue with this project.

I love the 1800 version of these engines and have 2 1600 motors that I would like to up to 1800 at some stage.

My 1800 motor is good and a spare engine or 2 is always needed.

The 2000 motor does not like to rev and for that reason I prefer the 1800.

Good luck and please post progress,

Ernst

Hi Ernst,

Today I got confirmation that a new old stock 1800 engine is available after all so I'm terminating this project. If you're planning to do it yourself sometime I would suggest to source standard size OE high compression pistons now because these are becoming increasingly hard to source.

Best regards,

Charles
