Montecarlo head vs Late Beta head

Postby davelarcs » Sat Apr 28, 2012 4:15 pm

Hi,

I've had a rumage in my various bits of Lancia, and discovered a late Beta head casting number 4372281. In good condition, just needs a clean up etc.

The Montecarlo has the head casting 4371507.

The Beta head has larger ports as standard.

My question is, as standard heads how much more flow/bhp is the Beta head worth over the Monte head?

Just curious really.

Hi,

From what I understand the Beta head has bigger ports but has the same valve sizes, so is not really at much of an advantage, from what has been written previously it may be worth a couple of lb/ft in torque at best. The Monte had more power than the Beta anyway just, by 1 whole BHP! (120 vs 119).

It would be good base for gasflowing, but as for bolt on HP, I would say not really. You need a big valve (43.5 inlets) head such as Fiat 130TC, Lancia Beta VX etc to gain anything in standard trim.

Regards
