Guy,
On the Montecarlo the engine is supported by 3 rubber bush/mounts and I think the engine moves a lot and the exhaust suffers of that in "fast road/track day" conditions (I've re-welded 3 times it). I know that on Lancia Beta there is a stay from the head to the body in order to have limited movement of the engine. But I don't know how it is fitted on the head.
My engine being a 130TC (from Strada) I plan to mount a stay from the rear body part of the Montecarlo (welding a bracket) to the head. Each side of the stay has a silentbloc (Paulstra bush) in elastomer. I plan to use the threaded hole on the intake side near cylinder n°4 (flywheel side) as fixation point. This allows to use a 12mm dia screw.
Do you think the head is enough solid at this level to accept this constraint ? Hoping I'm clear enough.
Thank you
Robert

Re: Anti torque stay for Montecarlo engine
Brace off the crankcase - at the gearbox end - would be my strong advice. Bracing off the head puts an undesirable load on the head-block-gasket joint. Norman Singleton In Australia figured this out and kindly brought it to my attention when he kept blowing gaskets on his X19 16v racecar (another transverse unit)

Re: Anti torque stay for Montecarlo engine
Hi,
I don't know if this will help here but I kind have had the same problem with my Lancia Delta Integrale. With movement of the engine under hard use the top engine mount stabiliser bracket had snapped off, I have had it re welded on several times only for it to crack and break after the new weld again so i thought i would create something new.
I have read about engine dampers and it seems that all the Honda boys use these to stop wheel hop and engine movement so I got my friend to weld a bracket on which i made and the rest was easy, hardly no engine movement but dampened.
