1600 Pistons - 2.0 Engine

Post by kremlingazette »

Hello All,

I have had a good search of the site for the answer to my question, So I apologise in advance if this is covered elsewhere.

I have a 2.0 8v Fiat twin cam engine, and I have gambled a purchase on a set of four rods/pistons & rings from a 1600 Fiat twin cam. They have 15 miles of engine use, having been in someones cupboard for years.

They are the 84mm type with a dome top, I was not able to establish from the seller what class size of piston they are, hence the gamble.

Can 1600 pistons be used ok in a 2.0 ?

Having scoured my books they appear to share a 22mm small end, rod length for the 1600 rods are smaller than the 2.0.

Will the 1600 pistons fit 2.0 rods ok ?, and also have sufficient clearance of the valves & head.

I will measure the 1600 pistons in the next few days and also my bores, then post back.

If they do not fit they will get sold on, simple as that.

Thank You

Yes - if 84mm bore type from the 1585cc.

There is a lot on piston-bore fits and ring gaps in the GC V/W.

Guy ,

You have answered the main thrust of my query thank you, at least I know they could fit.

However we shall wait and see whether they can be used in my engine.

I have retained your articles on ring gapping & piston bore clearance.
