Timing belt Gates 2050 Croma T serie 1 8V

Post by torkil »

Hi still looking for a better belt and i can see Gates have Blue racing belts . But they dont have any belt with same zise as the 2050.

The 2050 has 142 toots 18 mm wide , same tooth pattern as the old 2 lter , So i use Old pattern Camwheels, Anybody have some soulutions for stronger belt, I change belt 2 times a season. Reg Ove Thorkildsen Oslo Norway

If you can send some more details on the car it fits to I can check the belt and see if there are some upgrade options. E.g.Year, engine size etc
Failing that i might be able to make one to suit.
Blue Racing belts tend to come from our US friends or further afield.

Thanks friends for helping mee,

Cambelt 142 teeth 10 mm from center to center off the coggs,
Distance between the coggs 6mm
Pattern off the coggs -sligtly tapered.flat end.
Width off the belt 18 mm, but can take 19mm.

Lenght off the belt is 135,2 centimeter ,mesured cutted whenn laying flat .

I can see Volvo 2,5 and audi have somthing perhaps possible to use.

Thanks for extra info.
I am.guessing but I reckon it is L pitch trapezoidal tooth form. Therefore 0.375in or 9.525mm pitch.
Will have look to see what is available.
Pitch length is teeth x pitch = 1352.55mm

Pulley face width will determine what width belt you can take. If a pulley in the drive has a flange both sides then you need approx 1 mm more width than the belt to allow belt to move. E.g. 18mm wide belt needs 19mm wide pulley face width.
If pulleys have only got one flange you need extra ~3 mm width over belt.
Please confirm what you have available for face width.

I have 142 x 1" wide 3/8" auto pitch trapezoidal in stock, Will, Ove

however I am not sure the crank front pulley will accept the wider belt, even if the camwheels do. The outer rim of the GC 1" adjustable pulleys can be reversed to offer correct alignment though..

I can see there is 5080 which is an Aftermarket Gates belt 142t (9.525mm pitch) x 18mm width

I can also see the belt Guy is talking about which i believe must be 5166 which is also an Aftermarket Gates belt 142t (9.525mm pitch) x 25.4mm width.
This will only fit if the pulleys can accept the width, assuming the info i said above about number of flanges on pulley in the drive and allowing a little clearance.

The only other options would be to start a fresh and make a brand new belt to suit, but as you can imagine this becomes a much larger project needing more resource. This would need to have a large following to make this happen.

Let me know your thoughts guys

Ove,

you need to look at getting a new wider front pulley made to take the 1" belt,
