Hello GC community!
Here is the on going story of my 8v Integrale project. Please forgive the introduction I find the origins and stories of the cars almost as interesting as the engineering. I hope you enjoy!
I bought the car from a friend who had it on a ramp in his garage for 10 years gathering dust. The car was sold new in Germany and imported to the UK in the mid 1990's.
Despite the dust i could see the chassis was in very good condition. Once i got it in my workshop I found there were a few small jobs to do before I could see how it ran. The engine started and idled so I took her for a spin. There was a savage misfire as the boost came in so after less than 100 yards I was back in the workshop. Almost every hose and gasket was leaking and the water pump was spraying water around the engine bay. So there is only one thing you can do in this situation Once the engine was out an inspection of the crank case was interesting. Guy is currently giving my block the works so watch this space! Hi
I have recently been encouraged to update my thread and rightly so. The project has been moving on so let me bring you up to date.
The wheels took a lot of work to get right. They are 16'' magnesium 'ex works' so the advert said. After stripping the old paint and cleaning I could see the faces were quite badly corroded. I put a hub in the vice and put my angle grinder with a coarse polishing disc on an adjustable stand. With the wheel on the hub I put the grinder lightly in touch with the faces of the wheel listening for the noise of the high spots passing the disc like a DJ scratching a record. I found it worked well but took a long time as the polishing discs do not remove much material around 6 hours a wheel.
Here are some photos of it coming together.
