My first car: "Fiat 128 Super Europa" from Argentina

Post by GTAmax »

First of all, sorry about my horrible english, I´m from argentina and my first language is spanish.
My name is Agustin Barreiro, I´m 22 years old, and I´m studing for engine technican on the Renault Institute in Cordoba city.
I´d like to show you some pics of my first car, It was a gift from my father when I was able to have drivers license at 17 years old. I want to make it clear that this is not a proffessional style restoring work. It was the first car restoring experience for me, was for daily use and the money was not much. The engine was completely STD, as I didn´t had any money to afford preparation.

Some Super Europa information:
It was a restyling of the 128 Europa that came in italy, launched by SEVEL Fiat AUTO ARGENTINA in 1983 up to 1991. It had many improvements, like 1300 cc and 1500 cc SOHC, Air conditioning, new front and rear panels and lights, 5 speed gearbox and new instrument panel.

Mine was a 1987 1300cc. The car was completely rebuilt as you will see on the pics. It was a really good hobby to spend time with my father, this car made me a complete Fiat lover. My dad had a 1972 Fiat 128 (never knew this one, not have been born yet), 1977 Fiat 125, 1979 Fiat 128 Europa and a 1994 Fiat Spazio (147 restyling). Nowadays he drives a Audi A3. By the way I will always remember all the good times with MY 128.

My dad bought the car on the winter of 2004, It was a complete secret to me. GREAT SOURPRISE....

As It´s my first post on the forum, please correct meif I did anything wrong. About the images, I could upload them on imageshack or similar in order to post thumbnails and making the post loading quicker.

Some serious rust, but not on the front chassis and main frame, wich was really important. Here in argentina a 50% of 128 are cracked on the front.

I replaced the Super Europa´s original instrument panel with this one, from a 1984 Fiat 147 Sorpasso IAVA. IAVA is somehow like Abarth in italy, They made sport versions of Fiat 125 Coupe, 128, 147 and 133 in the 70´s and early 80´s, having great succes on argentina car races

MODEL POST!

Agustin - a nice & well-documented story - I enjoyed it and the results. Good photos and well-written post and captions!

And - it's great to see the person behind the story!

GC

BTW - re your last post which I deleted - don't be upset if you don't get replies! There are times when this forum moves along very slowly (boringly?) indeed.
