choose 131 or 132 2-litre

Post by oppositelock »

At the moment I'm sourcing a 2-litre TC to go into my kitcar, to be used for competition work in hillclimbs (mainly) and sprints (sometimes). I have found 2 engines, one from a 131 and one from a 132, and both are in similar condition.
Would one make a better competition engine than the other? From checking your book it looks to me that they are much the same in terms of standard power and valve sizes etc, but thought best check before get too far into it.
Thanks.

Hi,

I know of no mechanical differences between a 131 2.0 and a 132 2.0.

What are head and block casting numbers and what is the engine number ?

Miro

PS: I would suggest that taking them both (one as backup .... and potential parts donor) is the best bet.

I have two engines in my garage and it makes me pretty sure that last minute problem will not eliminate me for an event ( or at least not more than one...

Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately I can only get one of the engines! I'll make my choice based on condition, but I'll try and get the numbers next week too in case throws up anything of interest.
Thanks again

Hi. As promised, here are the block and head numbers of the engine I have been able to get. Would appreciate your advice to confirm what they are, and if there's anything perhaps odd about them before I get stuck into rebuild.
Head:
FF 10
S73
5991740

Block:
4D2 G
4356114
132DB.2A.0

I believe they are 2L Fiat 131, but they were removed a long time ago and not 100% sure.
Thanks

Hi

There is no hard and complete Fiat published data on heads and engine casting numbers.

From what I collected from the internet and other sources :

- 5991740 : - a ate Argenta fuel injected head

- 32DB.2A.0 - a 132 2.0 or 131 Volumerico block

But Volumerico looks exotic.

Are the head and block originally taken from the same factory engine ?

Was it fuel injected ?

If I was to make a bet I would say: Fuel injected Argenta 2.0.

This does not look like a 131 engine, but this make zero difference.

They were all produced in the same time period.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for looking into this Miro.

I trust the guy I bought the engine from, and we think it was pulled from a low mileage car with service history, so believe the engine and head to be an original pair. Also its got carburettor, and everything looks original to me.

Anyway, I'll see what I find in the strip-down - its of course possible something has been changed, or its just an oddball block.

Thanks again.

The Fiat data is notorious for its incompleteness and lack of accuracy.

So the engine may very well be an original from what he claims to have taken it form.

thank you
