Re: BMW E30 rear suspension for 131

Harry, If you haven't already started on this conversion, you may want to think about other alternatives. I looked at an E 30 rear end for my Abarth replica, but the down side is that there are not a great choice of ratios, and they are basically a single arm. I ended up using the rear end out of a ...

Re: My 131 abarth (never ending) story 2013 season update

Sadly Miro there are only two 131's competing in rallies here in Australia - Bill Dunn who runs a 131 Abarth replica and my 131 sedan. There is someone running a genuine 131 Abarth in some Targa events (bitumen road rallies), so hopefully the love of 131's may spread. Unfortunately 131 two doors and...

Re: My 131 abarth (never ending) story 2013 season update

Thanks, This is exactly what I needed to understand (and was afraid of). [Will put the Torsen in the shortest diff and try to see how it works , compared to LSD. ] Once this is done I will post my experiences with the Torsen. M I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.I compete in gravel and tarmac e...

Re: Scrub radius in gravel rally cars

Thanks for that, I like that idea of having a play with some spacers/wheels and seeing the effects before I order any wheels. As for the sensitive steering tearing the wheel from your hands, that would explain why my current car is a handful on rough terrain but turns in well. At least I know the pi...

Scrub radius in gravel rally cars

I'm currently building a 131 Abarth replica gravel rally car, and was wondering if anyone has experience with running substantially wider wheels on a 131 in the gravel, or wheels with a wider offset that would give more positive scrub radius (I'm using the wide flares). I know some thinking says tha...

Re: Oil pressure light flickers at idle/normal operating tem

WhizzMan is right. Time to stop fiddling and have a look what's going on inside the engine. The first port of call would be to remove the sump and have a look at the pump and pick-up. The sump can be removed without removing the engine, and the two things I would look for first would be a blocked pi...

Re: Fiat 2 litre 16V Crankshaft lightening

Thanks gentlemen for the informed responses - I remain a little confused, but on digesting it all I think I will lighten the crank and have a harmonic balancer made for the crankshaft pulley. Any further comment is more than welcome.

Fiat 2 litre 16V Crankshaft lightening

I'm currently building a 2 litre 16V engine for rally use, and having built a couple of engines previously, one with a standard crankshaft that was nitrided, and the next one radically lightened (knife-edged and nitrided). I'm in a quandry as to which way to go as there are two schools of thought he...

Re: 131 Rally Car

Sorry Guy, These are the thumbnail proofs I was sent, and have since purchased the photos and the right to reproduce them - I'm a bit of a techno moron and don't know how to download the others. I'll organise alternate photos until I can download and upload the purchased prints. My apologies, Alex A...

131 Rally Car

I'm new to the forum and I thought I'd share some photos of my 131 gravel rally car. I compete in all events from club rallies and State Championships, to the Australian Rally Championship. This is an 8V 2 litre with a standard gearbox, but a Volvo (Dana) rear end with a torson LSD and 4:56 gears ru...

Re: 16V Integrale head flow test - as per Guy's book

I'll try and get some photos up in the " cars " section over the next week. I currently rally a four door 131 8V, and the new car is still on the rotisserie with not much too see at this stage. The regulations we run under allow me freedoms with the gearbox, final drive assembly and brakes...

16V Integrale head flow test - as per Guy's book

My first post, so I hope I'm in the right area and not doing the wrong thing. I'm building a 131 Abarth replica to compete in the Australian Rally Championship (Classic Category), and with the scarcity of good original 16v heads, I was granted permission to use a 16V Integrale head. Having purchased...
