Re: Historic Forest Stage Rally 124 Spider

Hi Gents. Many thanks for the detailed information and also (of great importance) information on your own experiences and technical knowhow. My experience on my previous 2 rally cars is similar. My original spider had 2 sets of springs, one for forest, one for tarmac. The forest front springs raised...

Re: Historic Forest Stage Rally 124 Spider

Work on the car has slowed due to other commitments. The front caliper mounting plates have arrived, and a trial fit seems to prove they will work well. The cross member is on so when the shocks arrive everything can be fitted. I do have a question. I need some negative camber on the front. I have s...

Re: HISTIORIC RALLY REGULATIONS WANTED

hi Another site is rogeralbertclarkrally.org ( if it is ok with Guy) . The historic stage rally championships in the Uk have increased considerably over the last few years. The British historic Championship has gone from strength to strength. 9 years ago a car club in the North of England decided it...

Re: Spider Sump Guard?

The cross memebr on the "Abarth" item is much more simple than the early version. The mountings for the tie rods and spring add complexitiy to the earlier model. The cross memeber is made from 5mm steel, bent to form a "U" section approx 80mm wide, with a height of 25mm. The plat...

Re: Spider Sump Guard?

Hi Simon You need to fabricate some form of support across the front chassis rails to mount the front of the sump guard. I can post copies of the Abarth "Sevizio Informaiton" leaflet from 1972 and 1973 showing how the works did it for pre Abarth and Abarth cars. ( If Guy is ok with that). ...

Re: LSD for Fiat 124 CC Coupe

Hi Steve When I bought my original Rally Spider back in 83, ( 73 BS with live rear axle) it already had a clutch type LSD. It was a Borg Warner unit. After much searching , I discovered it was nolonger available and the rights had been sold to Italy. The unit was repaierd a few times, and eventually...

Re: Fiat Spider preparation for Hill Climb Car - advice need

Hello David First thing to decied is are you looking at a particualr class? Standard, modified etc. If class is not an issue then things are easier. If you have a look at differnt classes and different championships, you might want to tailor the mods to suit. Contact a local club who hillclimb, or l...

Re: Historic Forest Stage Rally 124 Spider

Well it has been a few months since my last update. Progress has been a bit slow mainly due to work commitments. One pleasant diversion was the Roger Albert Clark Rally. We (my co driver) and I ended up being management service crew for a French entered 124 Abarth. A long story but a great weekend, ...

Re: My 131 abarth (never ending) story 2012 season update

Hi Miro Sterling work. The parking brake/ emergency brake thing is a real issue. Here in the Uk they are saying you must have cable operated. ( For an emergency). It is now a poor argument as many new cars have "electrical" hand brake. These are not fail safe and cannot be used if there is...

Re: My 131 abarth (never ending) story 2012 season update

Hi Miro I am also struggling finding a mechanical rear hand brake for my spider rally project. I have 256 rear disc with Porsche calipers. There are a few bespoke mechanical hand brake calipers on the market, and there are even calipers marketed as go kart/parking brake calipers. Some companies give...

Re: My 131 abarth (never ending) story 2012 season update

Hi Tom I have started to read through the other thread. Respect for your calculations. When I get around to fitting the brakes I will look at the subject again. Back to Miros problems, one extra comment. As stated before , I swapped the setup from my Spider to the 124ST. It worked well with only the...

Re: My 131 abarth (never ending) story 2012 season update

Hi Miro I understand your problems. On my old Rally Spider, I had brake balance bar , 0.625” ( 15.9) BMC and single piston standard FRONT callipers on the front and rear. As the car was a stage rally car, the balance was to the rear, but the balance bar was not central- (due to the equal calliper pi...

Re: Wheel Spacers

Jason- Tom Many thanks for the reply. Loooking at the "works" spacers , there is a lip on them. ( The Abarth cap is the grease cover on the hub itself). I have now checked the front and rear hubs in more detail. On the early (pre 1978) spiders, the brake disc itself locate on the outside o...
