I must admit - it always struck me as a bit odd - that one week after I passed the MOT, I unbolted the original Fiat/Lancia brake calipers and fitted Wilwood ones. And yet the insurance guys were happy when I told them, the car was still "legal" and I was happy in myself with the conversio...

Piston cut-out for squish . . .

A bit dealyed - but this is one of the pistons for my engine. The top of the piston will just about be level with the top of the block at TDC - this will hopefully give a nice squish area. The dish is to give the required CR - 7.5 to 1 - and the 45 degree angle to the walls is to avoid and dead areas.

Crank Scraper

Here's a photo of the scraper on my Montecarlo sump. It came from Ishihara-Johnson crank scrapers in the good 'ol US of A. The baffles on the top go between the bearing caps and the block, you can just make out some on the other side that go between the scraper and the windage tray in the sump. Thes...

I remember something Dave Vizard wrote once - it's possible to have "dead" areas right in the corners of the combustion chamber (be it the head or piston crowns) where the fuel/air won't burn ! So persumably a nicely radiused squish area is better . . . The dished area on the pistons I've ...

How about adding a crank scraper ??? I brought one form America (can't think of the company name but I'll find it if you're interested. .). You can get a basic one or one with extra baffles which bolt above the scraper between the block and the journals and between the scraper and the sump (as it wa...

Oil sprays can be done - but the crank and rods are a very tight fit inside the block. Barry Waterhouse fiited ones to my engine a few years ago - but if you actually follow the line of the jets, half the time they oil would hit the con rod !! Hence the Mrk 2 versions in the photograph ! This is the...

The only advice I can think of is to use Fiat sodium cooled exhaust valves. I think they were fitted on all the "blown" twin cams - Volumex and turbo -and given the cost of them I don't think Fiat would have fitted them if they weren't necessary. They're about 8 times the price of a "...

Hello Guy - I meant to thank you for this website - it's great ! Anyhow - just a thought - but I have a number of oil pumps where the splines are about half way worn (when viewed end on with a loop). I was wondering if it would be possible to machine a tongue onto the shaft (below the level of the w...

Ah - therin lies the difference - mine was a twin blow through. My question about a fuel regulator isn't relevant either then ! The only reason I asked was becasue I had a problem getting the car to run under boost because I'd plumbed it in incorectly - I used a hose from the plenum chamber looped t...

I had twin 40 Dellorto's on my turbocharged Montecarlo engine - and they went a treat ! Choke size was 32mm.

I take it you have the fuel regulator on them to give a constant fuel pressure over boost pressure ??
