Re: mapped - high compression - hard to start

I agree with Guy. There's way too much advance on the 500 and 800 map. If the throttle was closed (0%), it would be trying to start with 19 degrees, as cranking speed is less than 500 and thus it would look up that part of the table. There's also too much advance on the 1000 map. ie 500 - all 5 degr...

So it had the wrong injectors then! Those mixtures sound perfect now, including idle.

Belzona

Guy, have you heard of a two part epoxy called Belzona? It's the only epoxy product my local head gurus will guarantee. One of it's primary uses is repairing erosion in centrifugal pumps. You can feather it out to nothing and it's guaranteed to adhere to the parent metal. My friend OwenW has recentl...

Choosing an Aftermarket ECU

I spent some more time on the dyno today fine tuning my new engine. It's a 2L 16V Peugeot, 86x86mm, 11.8:1 CR, 100 ron fuel. I spent condiserable time holding at each load point (the important ones anyway) and confirming the mixtures. After that I decided to do a power run vrs mixture to see the out...

If you rewrite the forumala as Guy suggested it looks like this:

P(kW) = (pi x N x T)/30000

and as corrected by Andrew:

5250 x pi x 1.34 x 1.34 = 30000 (approx.)

Therefore, the curves should still cross at 5250 regardless of the units, I believe. The two formulas are the same.

They should meet at 5250rpm but it only works on a plot of power in bhp and torque in lbf ft. It comes from the equation for power in Imperial units: power bhp = (torque lbf ft x rpm) / 5250 GC Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but that should work for metric units too! Because 1kW=1.34hp and...

The 2L race engine in this thread, http://www.guy-croft.com/viewtopic.php?t=302 , is running on Shell's new V Power Racing. It's 100 ron octane, 5% ethanol and at AUS$1.50/L is excellent value for money for a pump fuel. Regular 91 ron is $1.20/L by comparison. I would have normally run what we call ...

Not many people regraph distributors these days. You'll need to find someone with grey hair and glasses for a start! Start ringing around. If it were over here I could help you. A four wire sensor will be most usefull. The two white wires are the heating element (+12V and GND), black is signal +ve, ...

It's just occurred to me that I need to quantify the results above with some type of reference. Figures from roller dynos are variable at the best of times. So here's a 1905cc version of the same engine, 10.8:1 with one of my mild inlet cams, otherwise standard. Power at the wheels, same gear in bot...

A word about 8V ignition timing and AFR's. Advance Curve First of all, there is way too much advance down low in the std. 205 GTi curve for anything over 9.5:1. You will still need 31-32 deg. of total advance over 4000 to make maximum power, even with 11:1. What you're probably doing is curing the 2...

That's amazing. I thought I was looking at one of my Peugeot Mi16 heads when looking at the 998. Also looking forward to hearing of the specifications.

I finally have this engine finished and dynoed. I still need to run to bed the rings in properly and map the ignition - it's running a flat 25 degs. of advance. Very happy with the result so far however. Rev. limit was set to 7400. I don't know why the printer clipped the last 500 rpm of the power c...

The avgas we have here in Australia, and BP100 Racing Fuel, is typically 108 RON and probably identical to the NZ product. If you buy it as Avgas it comes in internally coated 200L drums, whereas BP100 comes in uncoated drums. It really does help to make impressive power/toque when the engine is tun...

You may been able to get away without an alternator on a carb. engine, but it could be a serious problem on a fuel injected engine, leading to lean mixtures. More so if you tuned the engine with a working alternator, delivering around 14V. Even with a fully charged battery, you'll only have around 1...
